The House Next Door

It has stood for well over one hundred years, towering eerily to the left of our own not unsubstantial property on the coast and in sight of the sea. Sometimes a strange glow in the yellow spectrum emanates from its portals. Otherwise it looms unnoticed by anyone not of the requisite sensitivity.

The only occupant is someone whose parents were seen in and around the property after they had died. Laura does not question this fact. She lives in one small part of the house. The rest is unused.

She does not answer the door when someone knocks. There is no point. She lives alone, but every year at this time she visits us in her finest clothes, and we partake of light refreshment. Then she returns to the house next door until the next time. Few notice her rambling house, despite its size.

You have to be very special to view it through the mist; and be enchanted by its ghostly presence ...
